Psycho for Love

Tough Love…Ministries

by Ashtyn on August 11th, 2007

This particular story is going to seem a little unusual for Psycho for Love. However, I can promise you it seems pretty psycho and well…it’s all about love. Love Demonstrated Ministries, that is. A Christian boot camp director and another employee were charged with tying a 15 year old girl to the back of a van and dragging her because she fell behind when campers were taking a morning run. It doesn’t get much more psycho than that…at least not in church!

Charles Eugene Flowers (the camp director) and Stephanie Bassitt (the employee), members of the San Antonio, Love Demonstrated Ministries allegedly tied the young girl to the back of the van, letting a rope hold her as they dragged her behind the van. The Ministries is in charge of a 32-day boot camp for at-risk teens. However, with treatment like this, I really don’t see the teens getting much better.

According to affidavits, Bassitt was placed in the back of the running line with the girl who could not keep up. As she fell behind, Bassitt was to continue running along with her. However, at some point the girl stopped running. When this happened Bassitt pinned her to the ground and Flowers tied the rope around her to attach her to the van.

The girl had to be treated for scrapes and bruises on various parts of her body include the arms, legs, and stomach. The child’s mother offered photos to the investigators along with a statement from a witness who saw the girl being dragged on her stomach. According to the statement it happened at least three times.

The compassionate counseling duo is currently being held on $100,000 bond each and will remain in jail until the bail can be paid. They are being charged with aggravated assault.

    Ashtyn,

… It’s hard to find anything good about this story, *but* another hypocrite exposed is a step forward. Have you had a look at the church/bootcamp website? The stuff about self-esteem is rather ironic, given how inhumanely the young lady was abused. Love your site.

Thanks for the kind words. I am glad you like the site. I haven’t had a chance to check out the website, but since you mentioned it I will have to give it a look.
