Rusty Yates, Father of 5 Kids Drowned by Ex-Wife, Has Son:
For those of you with an even passing interest in crime should remember the story of Andrea Yates. She drowned 5 of her kids in 2001. She was originally convicted of murder but the conviction was overturned on a technicality. In her 2nd trial she was found insane and sentenced to a mental health facility.
However what people seem to forget is that Andrea Yates suffered from severe postpartum depression. After her fourth child was born Andrea Yates was told that it would be extremely dangerous if she had any more children. But Rusty Yates, her husband, had to have more children. He knew of her history of mental illness and ignored it all for his desire to spread his seed. In my opinion Andrea Yates was a loaded weapon but Rusty pulled the trigger. One of the biggest travesties of justice is that Rusty Yates still walks free.
To make matters even worse Rusty has spawned with his second wife. If there was anyone who did not deserve to be called a father it’s Rusty Yates.

you are sick. how can you attribute what Andrea did to his desire to spread his seed? That stinks of biblical twaddle. The woman had ppd. that is a given. even if that justifies killing your children it does not justify going after the father. does he bear some complicity in not recognizing the symptoms of ppd and how severE they were, MAYBE, but that does not deprive him of the right to have a happy life WITH children. give the MFER a break

I agree with Trench. Being the only mentally competent adult in that situation, it was his responsibility to take care of her AND protect his children. He could easily have protected her from having more children when she obviously couldn’t cope. It made me ill to see him on Larry King when he should have been in jail for child neglect at the very least.

Jeff, did you know that Rusty Yates considered himself to be deeply Catholic. As a Catholic myself I know that we’re taught to go forth and be fruitful. Rusty Yates took it to a dangerous extreme.

Did he really need to have FIVE of them? They were warned about her mental state after the FOURTH was born.

My question is what stopped her from birth control or tubaligaton? This woman allowed a man and her church to control her reproductive organs? Aside from those questions, I hold him just as responsible as her, and he should have been charged with neglect resulting in the death of a child.

I just read the book “Breaking Point” about Andrea Yates and when I found this online about Rusty producing more offspring it makes me feel kind of sick. I do think he is partly responsible for making Andrea have all those kids when she was not in the right frame of mind to care for them (Plus most of the time they had all those children, they only lived in a converted bus that was about 350 square feet.).
Also, just to clarify, he never was Catholic. She was, but when they married, they never went to church. They just were religious at home.
