Psycho for Love

Pam Smart’s ex-lover wants early release

by Trench on October 24th, 2007

Pamela Smart’s former teen lover seeks sentence reduction for killing her husband:
The former teen lover of Pamela Smart and killer of her former husband is requesting for his sentence to be reduced. If you don’t know who Pamela Smart is you have no business being at this site. Nah, I’m just kidding.

Pamela Smart was a teacher who was seducing her teenage student, William Flynn, into killing her husband. The Nicole Kidman movie To Die For was based on Pam Smart.

Anyway William Flynn has petitoned the courts to reduce his 28-year sentence.

William Flynn’s request was included in a handwritten letter sent last week from prison in Maine to Rockingham Superior Court. Flynn says he vowed not to seek a sentence reduction until he had spent as many years behind bars as he had spent free. Flynn was 16 when he shot and killed Gregory Smart at the urging of Pamela Smart in 1990. He is now 33 and married with a stepdaughter.

People who marry killers that are already in prison is another rant for another time.

According to Wikipedia Flynn earned his GED, and has been active in charity work, earning money as an electrician at the prison.

What do you the viewing audience think? Has he been rehabilitated or is this just a ploy to get out of jail? Even if he is rehabilitated should he be released early?

Let me know what you think.

    Who knows what this kid could have done with his life if he had not crossed paths with Pam Smart?
    At the same time, one could argue that if he did not spend all that time in prison, he would heve been led down another, equally evil path.
    Perhaps the time in prison was a positive thing for this kid, he has his shit together, and may just become a law abiding citizen for the rest of his days.
    While I feel Pamela Smart was the driving force behind this crime, it does take a certain kind of person to follow along with the script. Being young, horny and in love with your teacher only gives you so many “stupid” points.
    My thought is that he should serve as many years as Mr. Smart LIVED before he should even try to get out of prison.

    he was 16. not to say that he cannot be held accountable for what he did, but what 16 year old wouldnt be impresionable. Especailly if an older person was using sex as a barganing tool.

    16 years seems like a reasonable time to be in prision. it seems that hes actively trying to make his life better. people have done worse and been let off with less.

    It’s easy to use his crime to forget that he was the victim of a sexual predator. I would say that he’s suffered enough for the decisions he made as a victimised child.

    You know, I think Flynn has done enough time, now that he’s been IN jail longer than OUT. I kinda felt bad when his request was denied, although if Gregg was MY brother, I’d've prolly been saying exactly what Gregg’s brother said, “You get the same answer you gave my brother: BANG! NO!” ::shudder::
    What’s incredible is how Smart’s mother believes she knew nothing of the plan. She heard the taped conversations between Pam and Cecelia, but somehow thinks — well I have no idea HOW her mind managed to look over them — and she’s still singing the Let My Daughter Go blues.
    The thing I most remember, oddly, about the case is how Pam instructed the boys to put her dog, Halen, in the basement so he wouldn’t be “traumatized!” Billy laughed with friends later as he described the dog going “plop, plop, plop” down the stairs when he tossed him down. But the thing is, she thought more of her dog than her husband! How does that WORK?
    And remember, she’d been married less than one year. Now, I’ve been married for 20, so at first I could maybe see how, after a few decades, she’d gotten pretty tired of Gregg and wished he’d go away (although not THAT far…) but less than a year? My God, those are the GREAT times in a marriage! Those are the five-times-a-day days! The pull-over-let’s-do-it days! WTF?
    Since Pam was teaching a Self-Esteem class which Flynn attended, it’s a wonder she didn’t try, “I was merely trying to boost his self-esteem!” Ok, it’s laughable, but so is, “I had no idea!”
    I was shocked when I went to her website and read the (few and mostly irrelevant) “points” she made. Most were merely re-directing the blame to the students. She was dismayed that Cecelia, another 15-year-old, hadn’t gotten jail time for “knowing about it.” This from a woman who destroyed the lives of three 15-year-olds! What, she wishes there had been more collateral damage? What is she THINKING?
    Am I the only one who DOESN’T think she was all-that in the looks department? They media called her a gorgeous blonde… where exactly is she blonde? And where are her lips? She always has this oh-hell-I’m-pissed-off-now look, know what I mean? And the picture of her on the bed in a a bra and panties, why in God’s name is she wearing panties that appear as though there’s a diaper underneath? Or peraps they’re “Good-nights for not-so-good girls”? I remember these little undies I’d dress my twin daughters in when going to the beach; they had a built-in diaper “just in case.” But they were two years old at the time! And STILL sporting more lip than this getup! Perhaps her look-ma-no-lips look continues even in her more private (well, semi-private, to be fair) places?
    Now Flynn has married a woman who’s the same number of years (6) older than him than Pam was. She has a 15-year-old daughter who sounds a bit troubled. First the daughter wrote a glowing letter about her relationship with her new stepfather, only to recant it when he asked for early release adding, “If he comes to live with us, I’ll run away!” What a little sweetie! Well, to spare precious things like white sofas and life itself, perhaps she oughtta mind her manners when Daddy-Billy gets home. I mean, we’ve seen what he does to people who come between him and his lover, and as Pam herself said of murder, “It will ruin the white sofa!”
    ::shudder::
    I’ve put myself in the life of everyone in this case to better understand the varying motivations for their actions. The girl Cecelia, just another victim of Pam’s, robbed of a decent adolescence, stuck on a Greyhound (literally) and shipped to live with extended family. The four boys, well actually I think the other one, the one who at the last minute couldn’t knife Gregg but motioned for Billy to shoot… he deserves an iota of credit for choosing not to do it. I know, he didn’t stop it, but still. Same with the two in the car sitting waiting. And for Flynn, HIS actions, although ultimately the triggerman, were at least understandable! Think of the things folks have done for love. From the beginning of time, man has proven again and again how love can render a sane person completely irrational, blind, deaf, and REALLY dumb. Add that his 15-year-old hormones were going crazy, and that his ah driver had taken over his brain, and it’s not such a reach that he’d kill this guy. And remember, he thought Gregg was beating Pam up… she told him so, so it must’ve been true (oh puhlease!) We’ve all seen a guy (it’s usually a guy) who is so taken with a woman he’s practically not even with us anymore. Top that off with a first sexual experience, ice cubes notwithstanding, and you’ve got a recipe for murder so complete it’s downright scary that a non-professional con managed to cook it up.
    The dog Halen died last year ::handing out the hankies:: Halen was one of the things Pam listed as her reason she “couldn’t” go to prison. With him out of the way, and “[her] job!” another, perhaps ALL her reasons for freedom have been exhausted! There is no other reason Pam shouldn’t leave that hospital in a box, ya know it!?
    Okay, that said, may she live an excruciatingly long life as a bar-maid (heh heh). Here’s to you, Mrs. Robinson.
    {thanks for letting me talk; it’s my first time on the site…nice job!}

    I am from this area where everything happened. I followed the case back then, but was in my early 20’s and too busy having fun and being in my early 20’s to let it sink in. Now though, realizing that it’s been 18 years….. damn. I’m sure my opinions are in the minority. I know Pam Smart talked that kid into killing Greg. I know she’s a liar. I think if she REALLY wanted to take the limelight off herself she would change her last name back so she could, at the very least not sidgrace the Smart family. Still though, Bill Flynn pulleg the trigger on a human being. HE was the one who ended Greg’s life, not Pam. It’s my opinion that the roles should be reversed. Pam should be eligible for parole after 28 years in jail and Bill Flynn should never be allowed out. Seems to me the one who killed a man should get the full boat. I know I’m sounding crazy, but I think Flynn knew right from wrong and needs to pay with his life as well.

    The media did a number on pame, she was convicted before the trial started. Let her out. When is enough, enough? She is a very decent person. She is being persecuted and that is not right.
