Funderburg Found Dead in Open Field

Jaclyn Funderburg, 22, was found lying dead in an open field in Colorado Springs Colorado. It is believed that she may have been murdered by her illegal immigrant boyfriend. Funderburg was found eleven days after her body went missing.

According to reports, her body went missing after she had gone to run errands and never returned. A friend, who wishes not to be named, has made claims that Funderburg and her boyfriend had an argument that was both physical and verbal in the parking lot of a Walgreen’s. Based on what has been reported by the AP, this was the last time that Funderburg was seen alive.

The El Paso County Search and Recue Squad found Funderburg’s body using scent hounds. The body was located in the afternoon on Sunday, July 22. According to the Denver Post the location of the body was around Space Village Avenue on the Banning-Lewis Ranch. The body had been placed in a shallow grave with parts of the body remaining exposed and left above ground. Due to numerous injuries that were sustained prior to death, the police have ruled Funderburg’s death a homicide.

A spokesman for the Colorado Springs PD suggested that Funderburg’s body was found near the location of one of Salvator Esquivel-Castillo’s acquaintances. According to one Crime Library reporter, rumors suggest that it may be Salvator’s ex-wife. At this point, these claims are nothing more than rumors. Currently the police are unaware how many people were involved in the murder and removal of the body of Jaclyn Funderburg.

Salvator, Jaclyn’s boyfriend, has been noted as a person that the police are interested in, in relation to this crime. An illegal immigrant, Salvator was put on a hold status so that he could remain in the country until a decision was made about his connection with the crime and how they plan to proceed if necessary. As of now there have been no arrests made and police do not seem to be in a rush to arrest anyone.

Salvator was arrested after Funderburg’s disappearance because of an assault that occurred in May. At that time, it was alleged that Salvator broke Funderburg’s jaw when the couple were arguing. Assault charges were filed by the prosecutors on July 25 and it was requested that the maximum penalty of 12 years be sought.

Funderburg was the mother to a ten-month old child and currently it is unknown what will happen to him. The rights of his father (Salvator) are up in the air due to his illegal immigrant status and his clearly violent behavior. While these decisions are being made, family is planning burial services for Jaclyn.
