Eye Doctor Charged in Murder of Escort

Online escorts are an endangered bunch of women these days. A few weeks ago I wrote on a woman from Colorado who was an escort and is now missing. Now it’s another online escort who got the ax. Alison Daniels was an escort and apparently she was very good at it.

She was so good at it that optometrist, Dean Barrette, age 44, offered to pay the 24 year old Allison to marry him. Their “love affair” was a fluke, if you can call it that. Apparently Barrette is quite the escort’s man, if you know what I mean. He had a “relationship” with another girl and that went sour. When that happened, it led him to Allison and soon after the rest would be history, including the girl.

The couple (using that term loosely, of course) met in Las Vegas towards the end of July. The intention was for the two to get married at the Las Vegas’ Chapel of the Bells. Rather than finding a girl the old fashioned way, Barrette decided to pay Allison the escort $4,000 to say “I do”. Court documents did not mention why Barrette would enter into a marriage with an escort he barely knew or why Allison would accept for such a low sum of money.

On the 24 of July, Barrette booked two hotel rooms using two credit cards. According to witness statements, Barrette gave Allison a large envelope. They believed that the envelope contained a generous amount of money. The plan was that the two were to get married that day. However, Daniels got the money and split. All in all, she left Barrette with the hotel tab while he was standing at the altar alone. She kept the $4,000, too.

On August 6, Daniels again met up with Barrette though it is likely that the meeting was not planned on her part. While the two were together in a Radisson Hotel room in Minneapolis, Daniels called someone asking for help. She told the gentleman she called that she was with the person that she had a situation with while in Las Vegas. She then asked the guy for $4,000 and to wire the money to her because the guy had a gun to her head. The person Daniels called did not believe her so he ended up hanging up the phone.

Hotel records state that nine minutes after the call ended, someone walked out the front door. Later that night, Daniels was found dead. Signs of a struggle were evident. Additionally, they found a large amount of Daniels hair strewn about the room. The hotel phone was unplugged though phone records show that Barrette used his phone somewhere near the hotel about one hour before the murder occurred.

It was not known how Barrett knew of Daniels location though after Daniels was discovered the police began looking for Barrette. They found him staying in a La Quinta hotel in Wisconsin. He had reserved the room for three weeks on the day of the murder. Police scanned the hotels until they found his vehicle and were able to arrest him at the hotel.

In the hotel and the car police were able to obtain several of Daniels things. Among the things found was a boarding pass that had Daniels name on it, a Las Vegas hotel room key card, a reservation form for the wedding chapel, duct tape, a computer, and some shoes that had blood on them.

Barrette was charged in Minnesota with first degree murder. He is currently fighting extradition charges and is scheduled to be in court on September 9. Barrette could be given life in prison if he is found guilty.
