Psycho for Love

Candy Dish killer

by Trench on October 27th, 2007

Defendant: I didn’t mean to kill wife:
40-year-old Patrick Zurkowski is on trial for the death of his wife June. He’s accused of shoving a ceramic candy dish down her throat which eventually led to her death.

Zurkowski says he didn’t mean to kill her and only meant to “shut her up”. He’s also claiming that he was defending himself.

He said his wife attacked him with a paring knife after he refused to fix a vacuum cleaner. He took the knife away from her, and they wrestled to the floor and exchanged punches, he said. He then put the plate in her mouth for a few seconds, he said.

Zurkowski said he was then unable to take the broken piece out of her mouth.

If was attacked with a knife shoving a candy dish into my assailants throat would probably not be my first line of defense. Plus I think this evidence doesn’t look good for Mr. Zurkowski.

After his wife died, he removed her sweat shirt, cleaned up the blood on the floor with rags and put the bloodied items in a washing machine, he said. He then called a local funeral home to report his wife’s death.

Zurkowski inquired about life insurance the day before his wife died to ensure their home mortgage would be paid off if one of them died, according to a banker’s testimony.

He admitted taking $28,000 from their joint checking account and putting it in his own savings account shortly before his wife’s death.

In February, Zurkowski took $30,000 from the joint account but put it back after his wife wrote him a note telling him to return it or she would no longer cook or do laundry for him.

Things are not looking good for Mr. Zurkowski.
