Benoit Murder-Suicide Sparks Controversy and Multiple Motives
Chris Benoit was one of the most popular World Championship wrestlers, who everyone, fan and foe alike, loved to hate. He was described as an icon, a hero, a good friend, and a great wrestler. Chris Benoit was also a father and a husband. Now Chris Benoit has a new title…murderer …or was he? Logic would certainly dictate that he was, though many people desperately want to believe otherwise.
Looking at the deaths of Benoit, his wife Nancy, and seven year old son Daniel, the initial police reports show that their deaths were an open and shut murder-suicide. However, distrust for the authorities, and idolization for Benoit has led many a web surfer to conclude that something more sinister, perhaps out of the pages of a WWE script, happened in the Benoit’s Georgia home.
My fiancé, fellow writer and my co-founder of my website, Literary Illusions has chalked this up to delusional fantasies by fanatical fans (turned conspiracy theorists) and I cannot say I disagree. You can read up on the conspiracy theories at Literary Illusions, and see just how many crazy fans have responded in favor of Benoit’s innocence. It is a bit disturbing to read…especially when all known evidence points to illegal drug abuse not only by Benoit, but abuse he forced on his son Daniel, who had special needs.
What is known and has been revealed in the past few days show heavy use of steroids by Benoit, despite the WWE’s protestations that he passed a drug test in early April. Additionally, Daniel, Benoit’s seven year old son with wife, Nancy, who has Fragile X Syndrome (a rare, hereditary disease, which causes mental retardation and possibly autism), had track marks on his body, a clear sign that Benoit was injecting the child, whom he thought was too small, with illegal growth hormones.
At this point, Benoit’s doctor has surrendered to authorities and has been charged with no less than seven counts in relation to illegally proscribing steroids and growth hormones to Benoit. However, the deaths (at least two of them) do not seem to be a product of “passion”, “roid rage”, or any other impulsive act. These deaths were deliberated, though out, and planned, spanning over an entire weekend.
The timeline for the Benoit murders is bizarre enough that if by some slim chance Benoit is innocent, the murderer would have had to have spent an entire weekend with dead bodies, in the home, and Chris Benoit all tied up.
Benoit Murder Timeline
Friday Evening – Nancy Benoit (who met Benoit when she was married to fellow wrestler Kevin Sullivan) was murdered. Blood was found under her head, indicating some struggle. She was bound at the wrists and ankles. The official cause of death was asphyxiation. A Bible was placed next to her body though when this occurred is unclear.
Saturday Evening/Sunday Morning – Daniel Benoit, age seven, was murdered in his bed. He was choked to death. A Bible was placed next to his body though when this occurred is unclear.
Sunday Night/Monday Morning – Someone changes Benoit’s Wikipedia page, to mention he missed a wrestling event due to his wife Nancy’s death. Their email has a yet to be determined link to the town that is home to the WWE’s main headquarters. Friends receive odd text messages saying Nancy and Daniel are sick (from Benoit). A neighbor receives a text message saying the door is open and the pets are outside. Benoit hangs himself on his weight machine, using the weights, pulley and cable to hang himself.
Monday – The authorities check on the family, at the insistence of WWE, who knew about the text messages to the friends. They find the bodies, and release the news of death to the press.
At this point, most are saying that Kevin Sullivan is probably responsible for the deaths. In a bizarre coincidence, fellow WWE wrestler (& manager) Sherri Martel died tragically two weeks prior to the Benoit deaths. Her death is believed to be a drug overdose, though foul play has not been ruled out. The consensus is Kevin Sullivan killed them both…Perhaps he is plotting to kill the entire WWE organization and this is just the beginning! If you can catch my sarcasm then perhaps you understand why I do not believe Sullivan is responsible.
Everything I have been taught in Criminal Profiling points to Benoit. If he could inject his son, a child who he seemed to be ashamed of, with illegal substance to make him look like Benoit thought he should then why is it such a big stretch to imagine he could be a murderer? Here is what I believe happened though I guess if I’m right, only time will tell.
My Own Personal Theory
Benoit and Nancy fought consistently about her needing more help with Daniel and him working less. Benoit may have gotten into a rage and killed her. By the time he cleared his head, and realized what he had done, it was far too late. By this point, having remorse and not wanting her to pay for his misdeeds, he put a Bible next to her body.
The prospect of raising a child with special needs all alone scared Benoit. He also feared losing his fans, their love, and support for being a wife murderer. After much deliberation, he waited until his son fell asleep, and then he choked him to death. By this point, Benoit was really messed up and yet again he placed a Bible next to his son’s body.
Knowing he would most likely be hated by his fans, disowned by friends and family, and sent to prison, Benoit took the coward’s way out, hanging himself from his weight machine. This is why the only sign of struggle seemed to be with Nancy. She had to be around someone she trusted, to have been tied up with no sign of struggle otherwise. This makes Benoit the perfect candidate for the murder.

If you’re arguing with someone, would you allow them to tie you to a chair in the midst of an arguement? Go back and read your theory, focusing on the part of Nancy and Chris. If they were arguing, and he flew into a rage, then she theoretically would’ve fought back some kind of way, correct? She would’ve had a defensive wound, a broken nail, something to show there was an actual arguement. Yes, she was around someone she trusted when everything began….Her ex husband Kevin. I won’t get into the rest of the theory on how Kevin got her tied to the chair and how he systematically killed the family, but think about it.
